TPO and EPDM Roof
These two roofing techniques are similar in that they are both single-ply membranes. While both options are highly resistant to weather and water infiltration, they differ in their composition and installation techniques.
TPO (thermoplastic polyolefin) membranes are vinyl-based, while EPDM (ethylene propylene diene terpolymer) membranes are made from synthetic rubber. For installations, the joints between the roof and the membrane, as well as the individual sections of the TPO membrane, are fused with a blowtorch, whereas for the EPDM membrane, an adhesive is used.
In both cases, this roof is greatly adapted to the Quebec climate and is very light, making it possible to install over an existing roof! It’s also available in paler shades to reduce the heat island phenomenon.
